‘I was teed up to do a full season!’

Conor McGregor has revealed he had signed up to shoot a full season of one of the biggest TV shows in the world, but ended up “letting people down.”

The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion is starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Daniela Melchior in the remake of the 1989 film of the same name.

The MMA fighter will star as Knox in the movie, who is a goon-for-hire who goes head to head with Gyllenhaal’s character.

This will be his acting debut, but it turns out he could have appeared in a season of one of the world’s biggest shows.

Take a look below.

Speaking to JOE, McGregor explained: “I’ll have a whack at anything no bother. You know, I was supposed to be in Vikings, the Vikings had me teed up.

“I had a few things teed up but I just kept pushing it along down the line, but I just stayed in the fight business. I always said ‘I’m in the fight business, not the movie business.’

“Ultimately I ended up letting people down over that because I was teed up to do a full season, and it just never happened.”

It remains to be seen whether McGregor’s performance in Road House will lead to more acting work for the Irishman, but his co-star Daniela Melchior reckons he’d be perfect in the world of Peaky Blinders.

Jake Gyllenhaal is another of the stars of Road House, and he said he was impressed by McGregor’s acting ability when they were filming together.

According to the movie star, McGregor – being an MMA fighter – had to train himself “how to fake fight” for the cameras, and he recalled a moment filming when he was particularly impressed with McGregor’s acting chops.

The actor told MMA Junkie: “Being head-to-head with Conor, the first shot we shot was that head butt, and that was his first time just staring me in the eyes and I was like, ‘Oh s**t.’”

Directed by Doug Liman – known for helming The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow and Mr. & Mrs. Smith – the 2024 version of Road House was released globally on Prime Video today (March 21).
