Billie Eilish accuses magazine of 'outing' her after she unintentionally came out

‘I like boys and girls leave me alone about it please’

Billie Eilish has hit out at Variety for “outing” her following an interview she did with the magazine.

The ‘Bad Guy’ singer was the publication’s cover star last month and revealed in her interview with them that she was attracted to women.

She told the magazine: “I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well. I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real.”

When Eilish appeared at Variety’s Hitmakers event over the weekend, she was asked about how she felt about coming out.

The interviewer asked the 21-year-old if she had meant to come out during the interview, to which Eilish replied: “”Girl, no I didn’t but I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?’ Like its kinda been… I just didn’t realise people didn’t know.”

Whilst she didn’t seem to bothered by Variety’s treatment of her interview at this moment, she hit out at the magazine in a post on social media afterwards, and accused them of “outing” her on the red carpet.

Eilish captioned a post on Instagram: “Thanks variety for my award and for also outing me on a red carpet at 11 am instead of talking about anything else that matters i like boys and girls leave me alone about it please literally who cares stream “what was i made for”

In the interview on the red carpet, Eilish said she didn’t “really believe” in the idea of coming out, adding: “Why can’t we just exist?”

She did reveal that she had been surprised by Variety’s cover story and the resulting media reaction, saying: “I saw the articles and I was like, ‘Oh I guess I came out today!’ I was like, okay cool.”

She added: “It’s exciting to me because, you know, I guess people didn’t know. So it’s cool that they know but I’m nervous talking about it.”
