The Beatles are expanding their commercial plans well ahead of their highly anticipated return to the big screen, with Apple Corps agreeing a major new partnership with Universal Music Group.
As reported by Variety, the agreement will cover a wide range of Beatles products and business opportunities, including merchandise, licensing and online sales, both physical and digital. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
The partnership comes as excitement builds around The Beatles – A Four Film Cinematic Event, which is set to arrive on 7 April 2028. The Beatles’ story will be told across four films, with each one focusing on a different member of the band.
That makes the timing of the UMG agreement particularly significant. With the films still nearly two years away, the Beatles’ rights-holding company is already putting the commercial infrastructure in place for what could be a major resurgence in interest, particularly among younger audiences who may have little connection to the band’s music.
By the time the films finally hit cinemas, the merchandise and licensing operation will already be ready to capitalise on the renewed attention.
