Bart Simpson to be executed by nemesis Sideshow Bob

After 25 years of dicing with death, Bart Simpson will be killed off by Sideshow Bob.

Our favourite cartoon schoolboy will fall victim to a fiendish plan by his arch rival, played by actor Kelsey Grammer, in an upcoming episode due to air in the autumn.

The reason for finally ending Bart's life is because the show's executive producer Al Jean felt frustration when the Coyote never killed the Road Runner in Looney Tunes.

"I hated frustration comedy so we'll scratch that itch," Jean said during an ATX Festival panel in Texas.

"So Bob will finally somehow actually execute Bart - and then won't know what to do with himself after his life's mission has been accomplished."

However, fans can rest assured the murderous scenes will not mean the end of the show or the son of Homer Simpson.

The episode is a one-off Halloween special, meaning he will be back to normal in subsequent episodes.
