Aberdeen airport staff have been accused of “taking the piss” after being caught on video ‘flossing’ as royals began to arrive in Balmoral to be at the Queen’s bedside.

Buckingham Palace announced Thursday that Her Majesty is under medical supervision. An official statement reads:  “Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. “The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”

The BBC reported that a plane carrying seven members of the Royal Family landed at Aberdeen airport shortly before 4pm. The corporation later said the plane was carrying the Duke of Cambridge, the Duke of York and the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

The group were expected to travel by car to Balmoral Castle – a journey of around an hour.

During the BBC’s coverage of the imminent arrival, around 3.50pm, two airport runway workers could be seen dancing.

The moment captured people’s attention on Twitter, but people were divided on whether the staff were “mocking” the Queen’s ill health.

One person suggested the workers would be “getting sacked in the morning” while another asked: “Mocking what? work day still need to pass, and if you enjoy doing it, no problems.”

A third person commented: “You don’t do this live on the telly.. Show respect to the Royal family.. those guys knew they were on the telly.”

Prince Charles, Camilla and Princess Anne are said to already be at Balmoral. Prince William, the Queen’s eldest grandson, is on his way there, while his wife Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, has remained in Windsor as her children are on their first full day at their new school, the BBC reported.

Prince Harry is said to be travelling to the event alone, with his wife Meghan not coming.

Minutes before the statement, the new Prime Minister Liz Truss was handed a note in the Commons informing her of the development as she was revealing her plans to cap energy bills for the next two years.

Truss said: “The whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime” adding “my thoughts – and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom – are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time”.

On Wednesday, the Queen was forced to postpone a Privy Council meeting at the last minute on doctors’ advice.

Following a busy day on Tuesday, during which she greeted both Boris Johnson and Truss at Balmoral, as well as undertaking other light duties, the 96-year-old was told to rest.

The palace said that after “a full day” on Tuesday the monarch  had accepted the medics’ advice.

The Queen had been due to hold the Privy Council virtually on Wednesday evening, during which Truss would have taken her oath as First Lord of the Treasury and her new cabinet ministers would have been sworn into their roles.

In a statement a Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “After a full day yesterday, Her Majesty has this afternoon accepted doctors’ advice to rest.

“This means that the Privy Council meeting that had been due to take place this evening will be rearranged.”
