Sky reminds customers how to stay safe online

Sky has issued a warning to customers, reminding them to stay alert as scammers continue to impersonate well-known companies in an attempt to steal personal and financial information.

The company has been sending emails to customers outlining the most common tactics used by fraudsters and sharing advice on how to avoid falling victim to scams.

Sky warned that scammers often pretend to represent trusted brands to trick people into handing over sensitive details.

In some cases, they may even persuade victims to place an order and then ask for the parcel to be forwarded to another address once it arrives.

Sky also said it would never request the password used to sign into a customer's account, ask them to share their screen, or tell them to read out their full bank card details over the phone or online.

The company stressed that anyone who receives an unexpected message or call asking for personal information should stop, take a moment and think before responding.

As another way of spotting genuine communication, Sky reminded customers that official text messages always include the words "from Sky".

It also encouraged anyone who feels unsure about a call or message to end the conversation and contact Sky's customer service team directly instead.
