Details of Andy Burnham’s first conversation with Donald Trump revealed

They shared a call earlier today

Today was the dawn of a new look government, and we don't Andy Burnham's love for smart casual clothing.

The 'King of the North' was officially asked by the actual King today to form a government, as is tradition, with Keir Starmer tendering his resignation.

With this, Burnham wasted no time getting to work, cleaning out Starmer's stuffy old cabinet and getting ready to call in a number of old and new faces to replace them.

Meanwhile, the new PM also had time to call Donald Trump over in the US.

Trump, as always, didn't hide much when it came to his thoughts on Starmer.

While he did comment on Burnham when it became clear he was likely to become the new PM, this is their first conversation since Burnham came to power.

And, details of their convesation have been revealed.

A Downing Street spokesperson said: "The prime minister spoke to the president of the United States, Donald Trump, shortly after taking office this afternoon.

"The prime minister began by congratulating the president on a successful World Cup and agreed that England had an excellent tournament.

"The prime minister also hoped that he would be able to show the president what Manchester had to offer during a visit in the future.

"Setting out his vision as prime minister of the United Kingdom, the prime minister said he would be focused on ensuring re-industrialisation up and down the country to ensure good growth in every postcode.

"The prime minister also underlined his commitment to defence and security and said ensuring the security of the UK and its allies was at the top of his agenda.

"The president then updated on the situation in the Middle East, and the prime minister outlined the UK's commitment to securing the movement of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz to support global supply chains and drive down costs for businesses and families across the country.

"They looked forward to speaking again soon.”

When asked about Burnham last month, Trump said: "I don't know anything.

"I see he was the mayor of a town, I hear that he's extremely liberal, extremely."

He's sure to know a lot more about him know, even more so with Burnham suggesting policy around North Sea drilling could be set to change.
