SoulTwins: Tune for the Weekend

Nooruddean Choudry

Each week our resident DJs, the Soultwins, select a classic record from their extensive collection to get you in the mood for the weekend…

Marvin Gaye – Where Are We Going? (1972)

Soultwin Stu:

“I first heard about this Mizell Brothers penned tune at the Togetherness Soul Weekender – maybe 10 or 15 years back – and I have not tired of listening to it since.

“The track was recorded and then shelved in 1972, after Marvin fell out with Motown, only to appear 30 years later after it was discovered in the Motown vaults. Imagine being the one who pulled that out! God bless those record nerds!

“This is possibly my favourite record I own and I do not say that lightly. Enjoy!”

Soultwin Jeff:

“One of Stu’s end-of-night records this – perfect for the summer and an absolute killer tune. The Mizell Brothers have some back catalogue on Blue Note, but this is easily in their top five for me.

“Sunshine, soul music and the sweet-ass voice of Marvin…perfection. I hate his dad even more after listening to this!”
