This won’t go down well in Qatar.
Part of the grander plan with regards to Qatari involvement in football is to use the sport by way of promoting the country’s reputation in the international community, and ‘cleanse’ the more controversial aspects of its perception abroad – human rights abuses for example.
Thusly, using Paris Saint-Germain as a very grateful vehicle for this plan makes perfect sense, as does Qatar’s controversial hosting of the World Cup in 2022. The hope being that the Qatari benefactors/patrons will come across as respectful and appreciative of the world’s favourite pastime.
But they are not without their critics. Many refer to the billions that the likes of Oryx Qatar Sports Investments pump into their chosen football clubs as a type of ‘financial doping’. Jean-Michel Aulas, the 68-year-old chairman of Olympique Lyonnais, has certainly been clear about his views.
But the Lyon man’s latest act won’t have gone down well amongst the owners of PSG one bit. That’s because he retweeted a video of a kangaroo fondling its own balls whilst being compared to Paris Saint-Germain boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi – something that isn’t respective in any culture we’re sure you’ll agree.
The video description reads: ‘Nasser and the Fair-Play Official’
The retweet has been un-retweeted now, but not before everyone noticed.
If you really fancy watching the video in question, it’s below…
