Two England fans jailed following Euro 2016 violence

England fans Alexander Booth and Ian Hepworth have been handed prison sentence following the violence involving England fans in Marseille.

Booth, aged 20, has been handed a two-month sentence, while 41-year-old Hepworth, a psychiatric nurse, faces three months behind bars. England - along with Group B rivals Russia - have been warned that further fan trouble could lead to a potential disqualification from Euro 2016. Both fans were arrested for throwing a bottle at French police, ESPN reports, and the pair have been banned from France for two years each. A total of six England supporters have reportedly been charged with public order offences. The charges and sentences are thought to be unconnected to the violence inside the Stade Velodrome following England's opening group game against Russia. England manager Roy Hodgson and captain Wayne Rooney issued an appeal following the altercations between fans in Marseille, calling for England supporters to stay out of trouble. Booth's father has pledged to "fight" the ruling, according to The Independent, after the 20-year-old apologised to the court in Marseille for his actions. Alcohol has already been banned from parts of France for the duration of the tournament, while Eurostar has imposed restrictions for fans travelling on selected trains from England to France. England's next game is on Thursday, with Hodgson's team meeting Wales in Lens, and authorities have claimed fans will be searched for alcohol upon their arrival in the town.
