Team GB boycott French restaurants after being served uncooked meat at Paris Olympic games

A private chef is being flown out to Paris

The decision has led to an extra, private chef to be flown in from the UK to feed the Team GB start at their own location.

Furthermore the Olympic village is said to be rationing food after experiencing shortages of food, including chicken and eggs.

In the run up to the games the organisers were excited to tell the world all about the Michelin chefs acquired to provide athletes with an haute-cuisine experience about the Olympic village.

However, reality so far has fallen short of the vision as lengthy queues and shortages of popular meals emerge.

The British Olympic Association’s chief executive, Andy Anson told The Times that the food in the village “is not adequate’ and “a dramatic” improvement is needed.

As a result of the issues, British athletes have resorted to bringing back packed lunches to the village for their evening meal.

In response, catering organisers admitted to some supply issues and have promised to rectify the situation.

Anson said: “At the beginning of every Games there are usually two or three issues and the transportation is always one, but the big one this time is the food in the village, which is not adequate.

“There are not enough of certain foods: eggs, chicken, certain carbohydrates, and then there is the quality of the food, with raw meat being served to athletes.

"They have got to improve it over the next couple of days dramatically."

The Carrefour group, which is responsible for sourcing 600 tonnes of fresh produce for the Olympics confirmed that it has been requested to revise upwards the quantities initially planned after "the initial assessments of the meals consumed."

Around 40,000 meals are being prepared a day in the athletes village, and the main restaurant has 3,300 seats.

Anson explained that British athletes have been forced to take matters into their own hands.

He said: “Our athletes have decided they would rather go and eat in our performance lodge in Clichy, so we are having to get another chef to come over as the demand is far exceeding what we thought it would be.

“The athletes are not going there just to eat their lunch, they are packing meals for their dinner as they don’t want to go into the athlete restaurant to eat. So we are trying to make sure our athletes have an advantage by having more food. It is the biggest issue at the moment.”

Britain began their Olympic medal hunt yesterday in the Archery while things are set to ramp up from Saturday after the official opening of the games.

Athletes and organisers alike will be hoping food supplies will be sufficient by that point to satisfy competitors insatiable appetite for success.
