Quincy Promes reportedly re-arrested in Dubai

Promes was sentenced to six years in jail in The Netherlands

Promes, who plays his football in Russia with Spartak Moscow, was arrested last month in relation to a hit-and-run incident and was arrested at Dubai airport when trying to catch a flight out of the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, according to NL Times.

The winger is considered a fugitive in his home country due to a drug trafficking conviction in February and The Netherlands plan to file for his extradition.

He was taken back into custody "after constructive cooperation between the authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Netherlands,"as revealed by the Dutch Prosecution Service (OM).

"The arrested man was reportedly staying in luxury in Dubai according to various media reports. However, he has been taken into custody thanks to the efforts of the authorities in both countries," Dutch prosecutors said. 

They added that they would not disclose more information in order to protect the ongoing investigation.

In June 2023, he also received an 18-month sentence for stabbing his cousin at a party.

Promes hasn't been present at any of the legal proceedings and has been in Russia the whole time while continuing to actively post to social media.

Prosecutors, who pushed for a nine-year sentence, said: "He seems to think he is untouchable in Russia or abroad."

They asked: "How did such a successful footballer allow himself to be drawn so deeply into crime?"
