Former Premier League footballer Benik Afobe has accused a cleaner of stealing £400,000 worth of jewellery from his mum’s house.

Afobe posted a picture to his Instagram story, where he claimed the alleged incident took place on the morning of Wednesday June 14 in Elstree.

Among the several stories posted to Instagram, Afobe included a picture of the cleaner’s passport with their details visible to see. He also included video footage of the alleged suspect leaving the house.

It said: “This woman has stolen £400,000 worth of my family’s jewellery this morning from my mum’s house in Elstree whilst cleaning!! If anyone knows her let me know asap!!”

Another post on TikTok said: “If you are going to rob someone half a million pound worth of valuables at least get rid of your social media first.”

The forward has since taken the posts down.

The ex-Arsenal academy graduate is currently playing for Hatta Club in Dubai after leaving Millwall in January, who terminated his contract following a poor season in the Championship.

Since leaving the Gunners, Afobe has also had spells at Wolves and Stoke City and has featured six times for the Democratic Republic of the Congo – the last of those appearances coming in 2018.
