Life in the lower leagues
A player who had signed for a non-league club has gone viral after he left the side almost immediately.
Bobby Grant had been announced by FC United of Manchester on Friday, announcing the deal on X.
They were so confident that they had got the deal done that they even said he “brings a top pedigree and a proven track record in the NPL” while also saying he would be in contention to play in their game against Guiseley.
As well as the statement they also included a video of Grant being interviewed in the club’s tracksuit, explaining the move by stating that “things change in football”.
He couldn’t have been more true to his words as just hours later, FC United posted the following statement:
“Deal off…. Bobby Grant contacted the club last night to state that he’s decided to sign for another club after receiving a more attractive offer yesterday evening.”
Ouch.
The former Blackpool, Scunthorpe United and Swindon Town man had decided to make a U-turn and return to North West Counties side Litherland REMYCA FC, who he had only joined a month before.
Grant made his second debut for the NWCL club on Saturday, playing in front of 68 fans in a 4-3 defeat to Chadderton in the Macron NWCFL League Cup.
FC United meanwhile beat 3-2 Guiseley in front of 1,700 fans.
