A stinky situation
Alexis Sanchez has opened up on the sub-par facilities he had to contend with while on international duty with Chile.
The South American nation could only draw 0-0 with Paraguay in their latest World Cup qualifier, leaving them with plenty of work to do to qualify for the 2026 tournament.
It wasn’t the performance or result that bothered Sanchez and his teammates though as he opened up on the experience they dealt with in their changing rooms.
Playing at the Juan Pinto Duran Sports Complex, the former Arsenal man gave an insight into a rather stinky situation.
“In Juan Pinto Duran there are three showers and they don’t work,” he told local reporters.
“You have to wait for the other person to shower. At the Colo-Colo stadium I was sitting stretching and excrement from ourselves in the shower came out of the drain…”
The 34-year-old is currently at Inter Milan after he spent the entirety of last season on loan at Marseille.
Sanchez has recently been linked with a move to the MLS, specifically to link up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami, however he could well stay at last season’s Champions League finalists for the foreseeable future.
Chile are currently eighth in the South American World Cup qualifying table with five points from as many games.
They face Ecuador on Tuesday as they bid to reach the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA in what is likely to be Sanchez’s final tournament at international level given that he will be 36 by the time 2026 comes around.
