Jose Mourinho will welcome the comments from one of Liverpool’s top transfer targets

Another coup on the cards?

Jose Mourinho knows only too well the feeling of beating a fierce rival to the signing of a top target.

Alexis Sanchez looked destined for a reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City last month, only for Manchester United to elbow their way into the deal with a vastly superior wage offer for the then-Arsenal forward.

The rest is history but Mourinho doesn’t seem content with one coup in 2018, as he turns his gaze to Borussia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Pulisic since 2016, with Jurgen Klopp eager to reunite with the 19-year-old.

Klopp was Dortmund manager when Pulisic signed for the Bundesliga side and it was believed that their previous relationship would make Liverpool favourites to sign the United States international.

However Pulisic has recently confirmed that he was a United supporter as a kid, likely giving the Red Devils a slight advantage in the pursuit of the youngster, who admitted that he was flattered to hear of Mourinho’s interest.

“Yeah, I was. I was definitely a big fan (of Manchester United),” Pulisic told ESPN FC, via Manchester Evening News.

“Of course, right now I am under contract with Dortmund and I’m not looking around or doing anything like that so I’m very focused there.

“But, yeah, it’s cool to hear all this stuff!”

Having scored 11 goals in 88 appearances for Dortmund, Pulisic has also been identified as a target by Bayern Munich.

United are said to have sent scouts to monitor the teenager in recent months and Pulisic has admitted that he’s spoken to now-former teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who swapped Germany for the Premier League only last week.

He added: “Of course. You know… I’ve talked to him. Of course, the Premier League is an unbelievable league and you never know in football what can happen so right now I’m focused with Dortmund.”
