‘He’s super talented’

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has claimed that Cole Palmer is “as good as anyone” to have ever played for Chelsea.

Palmer has taken like a duck to water since making the £40m move from Manchester City to Stamford Bridge.

While many questioned the fee they paid, especially given Chelsea’s poor recruitment of late, Palmer has been one of the standout players in the Premier League.

The youngster has 20 goals in all competitions, including 10 in the last five games, and even received his first call-up to the England senior squad. He’s even tipped to make Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euros in Germany this summer.

‘Great mentality’

Speaking exclusively to JOE ahead of Chelsea’s tough visit to Arsenal, live on TNT Sports, Cole believes that the 21-year-old is one of the best players to have featured for the two-time European champions, having not even had a full season at the club.

“It’s hard to compare this Chelsea team to other ones from the last 20 years but in terms of a player coming in and settling in, he’s as good as anyone,” the pundit said.

“He’s super talented but his mind, his mentality is the thing that sets him apart from others for me.

“A great mentality.”

Cole tips Palmer for greatness

Not only did he believe that Palmer is one of Chelsea’s best players, Cole also feels that the attacking midfielder can reach elite-level status.

“He could leave the sport as an absolute legend of the game,” he added.

“He’s a hard player to coach as there’s nothing that stand out.

“My thing I would say to Cole would be to just keep on doing whatever you’re doing and the sky’s the limit.

“I think he’s so well-drilled and so well-coached.

“We always knew he was talented, but we didn’t know he was that talented. Football wise, I don’t think there’s much he can’t do.”
