People have called for Carragher to be sacked after his comments on Wednesday

An old quote Jose Mourinho made on Jamie Carragher has resurfaced following his controversial comments on Wednesday night.

Carragher made what he initially thought would be a tongue-in-cheek joke to presenter Kate Abdo on CBS’ cover of the Champions League last night.

While wearing an Arsenal shirt the former Liverpool defender said: “You are wearing [an Arsenal shirt] next, for the last part you are going to wear it.”

Abdo replied saying: “I am not, I am loyal.” Carragher then joked: “To whom?”

Abdo replied: “Manchester United, thank you very much.”

And then Carragher really put his foot in it when he said: “Not to Malik”.

He then began laughing at his own joke while Thierry Henry and Micah Richards were stunned into silence before Abdo replied: “Why would you even say that?”

Old Mourinho quote

In the aftermath of the comments made, old footage of Mourinho back in 2015 has resurfaced in which the then-Chelsea boss claimed that the ex-England international “talks too much”.

“Jamie Carragher talks too much for someone who isn’t even among the top 1,000 defenders in football history,” he said. “How can someone who never won the Premier talk about what it takes to win the Premier.”

CBS facing calls to sack Carragher

Those watching on have called for Carragher to be sacked for his comments.

“That Carragher ‘joke’ has me cringing so bad,” wrote one user.

“Henry realising Carragher’s careeer is over just because of bants,” added a second.

“Jamie Carragher just said Kate’s not loyal to her fiance on live TV,” exclaimed a third.
