Piqué has several properties in Spain

250 graves have been found at one of Gerard Piqué’s properties in Spain.

Piqué, who has multiple business interests away from football, has recently invested in a project to build a hotel in Malaga. However the project has now hit a stumbling block.

Marca have reported that upon commencing the project, 250 gravestones were found on the property. Studies will now have to be carried out to determine what century the gravestones originate from.

“We have excavated about 250 tombs, of which the vast majority are empty,” archaeologist Alberto Cumpian explained to Hoy por hoy Malaga.

“Possibly, the tombs were never used, and are not valuable enough to be preserved. It is one of the largest necropolises in the country.”

Cumpian added that there was unlikely to be any further delays once the graves had been studied and that the project should be able to resume again in early 2023.

The Spaniard has had a difficult season on the pitch for Barcelona having lost his place in the starting XI.

Piqué remains one of the highest-paid players at the Camp Nou but is reportedly considering his future in a bid to secure more game time.

Despite the reports suggesting he would be open to leaving Barça, Piqué has insisted he wants to retire at the Catalan giants.

Back in 2021 the defender said: “The day I feel that I can’t help Barca anymore, I will retire.”

Although game time has been less frequent this season, Piqué is still rumoured to be contender for the Spain squad heading to the World Cup after he was named in the preliminary 55-man squad list.

The 35-year-old hasn’t featured for his county since retiring from international duty in 2018.
