Arsenal to speak to players over ‘hippy crack’ allegations

The players will be reminded of their responsibilities

Several Arsenal players will be spoken to by the club after images emerged of them allegedly inhaling nitrous oxide – also known as ‘hippy crack’ or laughing gas.

Alexandre Lacazette, Matteo Guendouzi, Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were seen allegedly inhaling the substance from balloons in CCTV footage obtained by The Sun newspaper. The players had been attending a private party in London last August, prior to the start of the new football season.

Speaking to the BBC, a spokesperson for the club said that each player would be spoken to and “reminded of their responsibilities”.

Users of nitrous oxide experience a feeling of euphoria, caused by its slowing down of the brain and body’s responses. Some experience headaches, paranoia and dizziness after taking it.

Although large doses of the drug can starve the brain of oxygen, it is not illegal to posses. It is, however, illegal to give away or sell.
