This comes after Elon Musk’s recent barrage of X posts about Keir Starmer
A Labour MP has said social media platforms such as X could be banned in the UK following a barrage of posts from Elon Musk towards Keir Starmer.
The famous billionaire owner of Tesla and Space X has been at the forefront of British political discourse in recent weeks taking aim at governments and political figures alike.
In the last few weeks, Musk has demanded for Tommy Robinson to be released, suggested donating £100m to Reform UK, claimed Nigel Farage is not the right man to lead Reform UK all while taking aim at the Labour party.
Earlier this week, he went as far as to publish a poll on his X account asking whether the US should invade the UK and “liberate” it from its “tyrannical government”.
Furthermore, there have even been rumours of the billionaire buying Liverpool Football Club, although those rumours were quickly quashed by their actual owners.
It feels like with each day that goes by Musk gets involved further in the UK, claiming his right to do so via his Liverpudlian grand-mother.
Only on Thursday it was revealed by the Financial Times that Musk has spoken privately to allies to ask how to remove Keir Starmer before the next General Election.
All this pot stirring by the world’s richest man has ultimately led to politicians hitting back at the South-African 53-year-old, with some even hinting at an X ban in the UK.
In a video posted by PoliticsJOE to X, Lola McEvoy, Labour MP for Darlington, said: “We are the oldest democracy in the world.
“We are committed to protected our children, and if there’s a breach of the law then we’ll use the full force of the law to deliver on that.”
McEvoy was subsequently asked whether the UK should consider banning certain platforms if there is a lack of compliance from them.
The MP responded: “I think that’s what it’s about, right?
“It’s about saying if these big platforms that have huge users don’t comply with the online safety act then they have no right to be accessed in this country.”

It is unsure whether the government would really follow through on what would be such a huge decision, however, the notion has certainly been suggested, not ruling out an X ban in the UK.
The country would not be the first western nation to see an entire social media site banned, with TikTok losing a court appeal in the USA last month after they chose to ban the Chinese-owned social media app.
A hearing in the US Supreme Court is currently ongoing to decide the site’s fate.
