Temperatures have dropped in recent days
UK snow forecast maps have highlighted two areas that could be hit by snow before the end of the month.
The temperature has plummeted across the country in recent days, as predicted by the Met Office, and temperatures are now enroute to the seasonal average.
Single-figure lows have become the norm in some of the warmest parts of the UK and it is expected they will continue to plummet over the next week or so.
Weather maps show that wintery showers could appear in some parts of the country as early as November 19.
The Scottish Highlands are expected to see the bulk of the snowfall with 5cm forecast at higher altitudes.
The Met Office long-range forecast, which covers November 8 to 17, states that “weakening high pressure” will allow Atlantic weather patterns to “creep into” the UK.
That pressure will whip up wind and rain, but temperatures will warm up slightly rather than cool down towards the end of the period.
A weakening of the recent high pressure is likely at the end of the week, which will allow some patchy rain to creep into parts of the UK from the Atlantic at times.
However, there will be very little rain in the east and southeast of England.
High pressure is then likely to rebuild more strongly towards the end of the weekend and especially into the following week, leading to widely settled conditions.
An Arctic cold snap is forecast to sweep across the UK later this month with weather maps turning frosty as the country welcomes 0c temperatures.
Areas including Glencoe and Glasgow will bear the brunt of the brutally cold weather, while Brits in Anglesey and Conwy in Wales are also set to shiver at the same temperature.
Ahead of the freeze, flood alerts have been issued for parts of the country.
