After earlier reports suggested that the Russian jet's pilots managed to eject, Sky News now report that both pilots are dead.
Putin has claimed that the jet was shot down over Syria, 1km from the border with Turkey.
He has warned that the incident will have "serious consequences" for Russia's relationship with Turkey as the investigation into the incident continues.
