Dark Souls multiplayer outage hits every platform

Online features have been suspended for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3, leaving players unable to access the games’ multiplayer modes while FromSoftware investigates a server problem.

The studio confirmed the disruption late on Friday, saying both titles would be temporarily taken offline across every platform.

It has not explained what triggered the fault or provided an estimate for when the servers might be restored.

For now, players can still explore the games in offline mode, but features such as matchmaking, invasions and the messages left by other players are unavailable. The outage covers PlayStation, Xbox and PC versions.

Dark Souls fans await answers after servers suddenly go offline

In its announcement, FromSoftware said: “Due to a server issue, the game servers for the following titles will be temporarily unavailable on all platforms.” It added that updates would follow once it had information about the restoration time, while apologising for the disruption.

The lack of detail has also left questions over whether the problem is related to a security vulnerability. No such connection has been confirmed.

The Dark Souls series has faced a major online shutdown before. In 2022, Bandai Namco disabled the servers for all three games after a security flaw was identified in Dark Souls 3.

The third game’s online services remained offline for months and were later taken down again as the issue continued to be addressed.

This time, however, FromSoftware has only described the situation as a server fault. Until the developer provides further information, players have no indication of when online play will be available again.
