Protesters claimed to be there to 'defend statues'
Violence erupted in London over the weekend as thousands of people gathered in the capital, with the alleged intention of defending statues which had been defaced during protests the previous week.
A Black Lives Matter protest scheduled for Saturday was postponed over concerns of violence erupting, but violence nonetheless occurred as far-right protesters clashed with police.
The protesters, some of whom were drunk, were also aggressive towards journalists in attendance, and could be seen hurling abuse and projectiles throughout the day.
More than 100 people were arrested on the day of the protest, and 23 police officers were left injured.
