Doorbell footage captured the moment a dad in Texas shot two teenagers who had allegedly attempted to break into his car with two young kids in the back.

According to local media, the unnamed man arrived at his home in Houston, Texas, on Monday with his kids in the backseat. Two teenagers approached the vehicle and attempted to get in, spurring the father to fire off numerous shots through the rear window.

The two teenagers, both believed to be 16, had attempted to get into the car via the rear door where the man’s one-year-old was sitting. The car also contained a second child whose age has not yet been revealed.

In the shocking video published by KHOU11, at least four gunshots can be heard before sounds of screaming erupt from the far side of the street. The family’s vehicle then speeds off, with the unnamed mother driving.

The two young suspects subsequently jumped into a nearby waiting car before being dropped off at the local hospital, reports the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

They are both in stable condition and the father is not facing criminal charges. The investigation is ongoing but more information is expected to follow.

Firearm purchases in the US rose to record levels in recent years, with an estimated 43 million guns purchased between 2020 and 2021, reports The Washington Post. Earlier this month, Akron Police Department released bodycam footage that showed officers shooting an unarmed black man 60 times as he fled his car.

The officers in Ohio shot 25-year-old Jayland Walker after he was stopped for traffic and equipment violations. Walker had attempted to flee by vehicle and, after a car chase, took to escaping on foot. Numerous officers pursued him, who then fired 90 shots at him, 60 of which hit their target.

“I won’t mince words — the video you are about to watch is heartbreaking and is very tough to take in,” said Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan during a press conference.

The incident is being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI).
