Marion "Suge" Knight, best known for his role in founding record label Death Row — which at one time housed Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur — will be sentenced to 28 years in prison after pleading no contest to a voluntary manslaughter charge.
Knight killed Terry Carter, 55, a Compton, California, businessman, and injured a security consultant, Cle Sloan, when he ran over both at a local burger stand.
According to the sheriff's department, Knight reversed over the men and hit them again as he drove off.
The incident occurred after Knight was involved in a dispute on the set of the movie Straight Outta Compton, about the rap group NWA, in which he is depicted.
The former Hip Hop mogul has long been a figure of controversy. Tupac Shakur was in the passenger seat of Knight's car when he was killed in 1996.
He also has prior felony convictions for armed robbery and assault with a gun, to which he pleaded no contest in 1995, and was sentenced to five years’ probation for assaulting two rappers at a Hollywood recording studio in 1992.
