Tusk has spoken on Russian assaults
A Russian missile probably caused a 10m-wide (33ft) crater deep inside Poland in the early hours of Thursday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said. The object crashed into a field near the village of Tarnawa Kolonia, some 92km (57 miles) from the border with Ukraine, the BBC reported, during a large-scale Russian assault on Lviv, Kyiv and areas near Kryvyi Rih.
Tusk said that, according to military experts, the majority of “recovered fragments point to it being a Russian Kh-101” cruise missile. Poland's defence minister, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, said about 20 objects had been seen close to Polish airspace overnight. No casualties were reported at the site, but at least eight people were killed across Ukraine in the wider strike, including six members of one family.

Nato said it was in close contact with Warsaw, with Supreme Allied Commander Gen Alexus Grynkewich vowing to “take all necessary measures to defend Nato territory”. Ukraine's acting foreign minister Andriy Sybiha said the Kh-101 had violated Nato airspace. The incident follows other recent alarms over Russian hardware near allied territory, including when jets were scrambled to intercept a Russian plane close to a UK carrier.
