DJ Kavinsky found dead aged 50

French DJ Kavinsky found dead in his Paris home at age 50

Vincent Belorgey, known publicly as Kavinsky, rose to fame with his hit song “Nightcall”.

Kavinsky’s hit soundtrack, used in the opening credits for the slow burning movie Drive starring Ryan Gosling. 

The synthwave hit became the most Shazamed song in a single day, during a successful Paris 2024 Olympics closing ceremony performance performed by the French DJ.

French President Emmanuel Macron posted on Facebook, praising the DJ as forever a national pride. 

Culture Minister Catherine Pégard followed suit on X: "With the sudden passing of Kavinsky, France has lost one of its most unique voices.

"From the film Drive to the Paris Olympics, the whole world was moved by Nightcall . Both danceable and nostalgic, his music will continue to transcend generations and borders."

The Paris prosecutor’s office stated that Kavinsky was found dead at his home in Paris, reported by Reuters and French media.

The BBC has contacted Kavinsky’s representatives for confirmation.

Le Figaro reported that the DJ had been complaining of headaches for several days prior.

The first responders found no suspicious items that could have been linked to Vincent Belorgey’s untimely death. 

Paris prosecutors have now opened an investigation to determine the cause of death.

However, the comments from Le Figaro have led authorities to believe this may be linked to a stroke.
