Local station WRDW-TV said that Thompson was going 86mph, which led to the death of a 76-year-old man. On another occasion in 2017, he accidentally shot another officer. Thompson claimed his gun jammed while cleaning it, but reports found that no malfunction occurred, and Thompson was branded "negligent."
Most recently, in 2021, a woman accused Thompson of harassing her. The officer admitted to using police resources to track the woman down, claiming to want to return lost items. He was suspended for two days.
