It's like the horse-meat fiasco all over again...

"Unsafe levels" of a paint thinner have been discovered in Lidl gravy granules, according to the British Food Standards Agency. The gravy was reportedly contaminated with xylene, a chemical that exists in crude oil and petroleum, according to the Irish Times. Two batches of the supermarket's Kania Gravy Granules are being recalled as a result. The alert from the Food Standards Agency read: "

“Exposure to xylene in food products represents a health risk as it can cause adverse effects such as headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. The contaminant levels in this product exceed those set to minimise this risk and the product is therefore being recalled as a precaution.”

The affected products are those with Best Before Dates of October and November 2017. At this stage, no other batches are thought to have been affected.
