Music streaming giant Spotify have acquired Irish company Soundwave as they look to help users find new music.

The deal will see Soundwave, a popular music discovery app, become integrated into Spotify’s wider service to allow users to find new music faster while also helping new users get acquainted with the system easier.

The app works by telling you what music people in your area are listening to and uses this information to suggest new artists, based on its database of user preferences from 150 different countries.

It is believed that the same system might also be used to make gig recommendations to users, although no plan for that has been announced yet.
