Nadim had been taken off air during her coverage of Denmark’s opening World Cup game
ITV World Cup pundit and Denmark star Nadia Nadim has announced that her mother has been killed after being hit by a truck while on her way back from the gym.
Nadim had been working for ITV in Qatar and was part of the broadcaster’s coverage of Denmark’s opening game against Tunisia on Tuesday.
But she was taken off-air during the broadcast, and has since shared the heartbreaking news that her mother has passed away.
On Wednesday, she wrote: “Words cannot describe what I’m feeling.
“I have lost the most important person in my life and it happened so sudden and unexpected. She was only 57.
“She was a warrior who had fought for every inch of her life. She didn’t give me life once but twice, and everything I/ we are is because of her.
“I have lost my home and I know nothing is gonna ever feel the same. Life is unfair and I don’t understand why her and why this way. I love you and I will see you again.”

Nadim added: “Her funeral is gone be soon… please come and show her the love, respect and prayers she deserves.”
The pundit had been working for ITV on Denmark’s 0-0 draw with Tunisia, and was part of the studio pundit lineup in the buildup to the game.
After the final whistle, she was no longer on air though, with ITV announcing that she had to leave early.
In a statement, the broadcaster said: “Everyone at ITV, those working with Nadia in Qatar, and the wider company, is deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic news. We have offered Nadia our support and our thoughts are with her and those closest to her at this incredibly difficult time.”

The former Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain forward, who represents Denmark at international level where she has won over 100 caps, now plays for Racing Louisville in the US.
Born in Afghanistan, Nadim and her family moved to Denmark when she was a child and she began her footballing career with B52 Aalborg and Team Viborg.
The forward made her international debut for Denmark in 2009, and has gone on to score 38 goals in 99 games.
