Man seriously injured after being gored during bull run in Spain

The man is thought to be in a stable condition

The 33-year-old, who is unnamed, was knocked to the ground by one of the animals. While attempting to get up, a second bull smashed into the man leaving him unconscious.

The man received a gore wound to his anterior jugular vein during the incident, which happened in the Spanish village of Blanca, near Murcia.

Another man ran over to help him but was knocked over by a third bull. After the animals had passed, a group of people helped both men and the Irish man was stabilised at a field hospital before being taken to a nearby hospital.

According to the Irish Independent, a medic who attended to the victim said he had suffered a “fairly deep” neck wound as well as head and pelvic injuries.

It was also confirmed that the man is in a stable condition and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The event the man took part in is what is known as an 'encierro' or running of the bulls, a summertime festival similar to the famous San Fermines festival in Pamplona.

Bull runs are a popular event around Spain and Portugal, dating back centuries. A lot of popular bull runs have now become a tourist attraction, with many people from around the world travelling to take part in the run.

Every year, dozens of people are reportedly injured in such events.
