The Office star Lucy Davis has received a heartfelt tribute from the Good Morning Britain team after revealing that she has been diagnosed with incurable stage 4 breast cancer.
Davis, who played Dawn Tinsley in the original UK version of The Office, opened up about her diagnosis in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
The 53-year-old revealed that she was diagnosed around a year and a half ago and that the cancer has since spread to her spine, right hip and ribs.
She explained that her cancer is now incurable and that it was too late for chemotherapy. Despite the devastating diagnosis, Davis said she is “at peace” with whatever happens next.
The news was discussed on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain, where Ranvir Singh described the revelation as a “terrible shock”, particularly because Davis is still so young.
Singh also focused on the warning Davis wanted others to take from her experience. The actress explained that the first sign she noticed was not an obvious lump, but a tiny hard area which she almost decided not to have checked.
"One of the things she said was, 'The initial lump I felt wasn't a lump as such, rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny.'
"And she says, 'I almost didn't bother getting it checked, so I guess I'm saying don't ignore anything. Get everything checked out.' That's probably the most, one of the most, important messages she's giving."
She also praised Davis for being open about her diagnosis, saying that speaking publicly about cancer can encourage others to pay attention to their own health.
Despite everything she is facing, Davis has said she wants to spend her remaining time enjoying herself and making memories. Referencing the actress’ plans, Singh ended by saying: “One of the things she says is she wants to live out her life doing fun things, so I certainly hope Lucy is going to be out watching the solar eclipse, because it certainly is a once in a generation experience.”
