Interstellar is returning to cinemas this year to mark its 10th anniversary

The film is regarded as one of the greatest of all time

Interstellar, one of the greatest films of all time, is set to return to cinemas this year to mark its 10th anniversary.

The Paramount Pictures film was widely praised for a variety of aspects, most notably its incredible soundtrack, visuals and consistency with real world physics.

Ever since its release, the film has been a cult classic and fan favourite with its piano riff theme tune becoming culturally iconic.

Now fans of the film directed by Christopher Nolan will be able to experience Interstellar’s stunning audio and visuals all over again in cinemas and IMAXs this Christmas.

The film was originally set to be rereleased 27 September however this date has been pushed back to 6 December.

Rumour had circulated that the showing had been pushed back by two months because the original 70mm IMAX film had been destroyed, however studio sources dispute this.

Paramount claims that it has archived more copies of Interstellar than most films, however film reels do experience wear and tear, often rendering them unusable by the end of theatrical runs.

The real reason would appear to be that the rescheduling was to align with the home entertainment relaunch of the film in December.

Fans were very receptive to the news as they took to social media to express their excitement.

One user said: “I speak for everyone when I say we will be there. Still the greatest movie of all time.”

Another person wrote: “Yes! Interstellar is coming back to theatres on December 6! Seeing it in IMAX 70MM is going to be mind-blowing. This is one of my all-time favourite movies—can’t wait to experience it on the big screen again!”

Meanwhile another fan said: “This will be epic. Grab the popcorn.”

The film first premiered on 5 November 2014 and grossed £575m in the box office with an initial budget of £130m.

A star-studded cast featured in the film with Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Matt Damon making memorable appearances.

There will be a special series of screenings of the film in the IMAX at the Science Museum in London for two weeks to celebrate the film and its accurate depiction of the future of space travel.

Interstellar was nominated for five Oscars, winning one of them for best visual effects.

The film has 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.7/10 on IMDb.
