The Prince of Wales doesn’t earn a salary in the traditional sense, being the heir to the British throne and a working member of the Royal Family, but benefits from managing the Duchy of Cornwall estate instead.
The Duchy, which was established in 1337 by King Edward III as a means of supporting the heir to the throne, is valued at around £1.26bn.
Prince William inherited the title and now makes an income from managing the lands, following Charles’ ascension to the throne in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II's passing.
The sprawling estate, which includes land, farms and property, covers 135,000 acres across 23 counties in the South West of England.
But how much did Prince William make in the last year?
William earned a total of £22.9 million over the 2024-2025 period during his second year as the Duke of Cornwall, according to a report released by the Duchy earlier this year.
This is down slightly from last year's £23.6 million, according to the report.
All expenses, including 'official, charitable, and private activities', for William, his wife Kate Middleton, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, are covered by the money.
What are Prince William’s duties as the Duke of Cornwall?
William oversees the effective management of lands and assets tied to the Duchy, as head of the estate.
He also supports the communities which reside inside the lands.
How does the Royal Family make its money?
Various public and private sources, including the Sovereign Grant, the Duchy of Lancaster, and the Duchy of Cornwall, fund the Royal Family, while they are also understood to have private wealth generated from personal investments and trusts.
The year 2025 was a turbulent one for the Royal Family, as Prince William’s uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was stripped of his titles and royal privileges.
He is now a commoner because of his previous association with disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The former Duke of York faced increased scrutiny from the public over his links to Epstein and allegations made by a late Epstein victim, which he has continuously denied.
