Bring on winter

The exact date an Arctic blast is set to hit the country with 80% chance of snow has been revealed.

The weather in recent weeks has been sporadic, changing from warm to wet to cold to windy, and we are due once again for another extreme turn in meteorological conditions.

According to the latest weather forecast from WX Charts a cold front is inbound for the UK from the second week of October, bringing high chances of snow in Scotland and lower odds in England.

Weather 10/24

In large parts of Scotland the chances of a white October are as high as 80%.

Wales and the north of England from Manchester up to the border with Scotland have also been highlighted as areas for potential snow, although with closer to a 5% chance.

Meanwhile, despite the south of England not expecting snowfall, the mercury is still expected to dip into the minuses, with most of the country expecting sub-zero temperatures from the 11 October, with 15 October being the peak.

For the current week, the Met Office has yellow rain warnings in place for much of the north of England for today and tomorrow.

Last week, some of the UK was hit hard by flooding, notably in Bedfordshire, Berkshire and Hertfordshire with a section of the A421 dual-carriageway becoming completely submerged.

Despite maps showing the potential sub-zero temperatures on the way, the Met Office’s long range outlook is less certain.

The weather organisation said that “confidence is rather low throughout this period,” although there is a chance of “fog and frost” in the evenings.

Meanwhile, weather is expected to pick up towards the end of the month.

It said: “Temperatures are most likely to be close to or slightly above average, especially so later in the month.”
