Enzo Maresca has reportedly told Conor Gallagher he would only be a squad player at Chelsea going into the upcoming Premier League season.
Previously a mainstay in the middle of the park under Mauricio Pochettino, Gallagher is loved by the Blues faithful.
Before their victory over Tottenham Hotspur towards the end of the 2023/24 season Chelsea fans unveiled a specialised banner for the player.
A player that has been at the club since a very young age, Gallagher formerly had loan spells at Charlton Athletic, Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace before breaking into the first side in West London.
However, now his time at Chelsea looks to be coming to an end.
Chelsea have told the player that he would only be a squad player if he is to stay at the club, showing why the Blues bosses only offered him a 2+1 contract, which was rejected on Wednesday and in June.
There are concerns that the high-possession based style of football would not suit Gallagher, meaning he wouldn't get as many starts as last season.
As a result, the club reportedly believe that it would be a mistake financially to offer him a longer term contract.
In terms of interest in the player, Atletico Madrid's proposition remains on the table.
Diego Simeone's men want an answer from the player by Monday, with a decision not yet made.
