Deaf and blind dog dumped by canal makes miracle recovery

Joseph Loftus

“The dog was too terrified to move at first.”

The new owner of a deaf and blind ‘miracle’ dog has shared the heartbreaking story of how the pup was left dumped by a canal.

The RSPCA said a walker who passed the dog first, named Morris, initially thought it was a ‘pile of rags’. Upon closer inspection, however, they discovered that it was actually a living, breathing, pup.

A representative for the RSPCA explained that the first person to see Morris ‘thought the poor pet was dead he was in such a poor condition’, reports the BBC.

They continued: “But then he could see the neglected dog was breathing but he was too terrified to move, so he carried him home to help him recuperate before taking him to a nearby vets.”

The vet contacted the RSPCA and Morris was rushed the charity’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital for emergency treatment.

“Staff immediately got to work to shave off 1.3kg of matted fur, which was preventing him from moving,” the charity’s representative said.

“Once they could see his face, they realised he was also blind in one eye and the other had so many cataracts he needed an operation and they were unable to save his sight.”

Ol’ Morris was then taken to the RSPCA Lancashire East branch where he ‘landed firmly on his paws’ and a pensioner quickly adopted him.

82-year-old, Ms Newhall, who has now given Morris his forever home says he loves ‘playing with his tenis ball’ and enjoys it when her daughter comes round with her dog.

Ms Newhall explained: “Morris is a beautiful little dog and enjoys snuggling up to me on the settee. He is great company and when you think where he has come from it is a miracle he is still here.”

My heart.
