COMMENT: Now is not the time to talk about gun control

Not today.

@hrtbps

Not now.

Now is not the time to talk about gun control, because the blood of 58 people murdered by a gunman in Las Vegas, Nevada has barely congealed, and we should wait for their families to mourn.

Yesterday wasn’t the time to talk about gun control either, because a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed after someone brought a gun to a fight.

Two days before that wasn’t a good time to talk about gun control either, because four men were shot in New Orleans.

Nor was September 24th a good time to discuss gun control, because there were four mass shootings, in Maryland, New Jersey, Tennessee and New York.

If you assumed September 23rd was a good time to bring up the subject of gun control, you’d be wrong, what with mass shootings in both Illinois and California.

Trying to start a conversation about gun control three days before that would’ve been out of the question, since five people were shot in Gary, Indiana.

You could not have discussed gun control two days prior to that, because four people were shot in Michigan and another five in Virginia.

The previous day, eight people were shot in South Carolina, so it wouldn’t have been a good idea to discuss gun control that day either.

And you can forget your gun control debate on September 13th, since there were four mass shootings, in Washington, Tennessee, and two in Pennsylvania.

In the days preceding, there were further mass shootings in Louisiana, Alabama, Texas and Illinois, so there really was no time for a debate on gun control.

And that was just September.

So far in 2017, there have been an average of 9 mass shootings every ten days in the US. I hope you appreciate there is never a good time to talk about gun control.
