She pulled out of royal engagements earlier this week
Buckingham Palace has shared a new update on Queen Camilla’s health after she pulled out of royal engagements this week through illness.
The Queen consort and her husband King Charles had recently been on a royal tour to the Pacific, visiting Australia, Samoa and other commonwealth territories in the region.
In doing so the King became the first reigning monarch to visit a Commonwealth nation in over a decade.
Last week it was reported that 77-year-old Queen Camilla had withdrawn from her engagements due to a chest infection, as announced by Buckingham Palace.
The Palace has since issued an update on the matter.
It read: “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.
“With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week.
“She apologizes to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”
Despite hoping to attend the Remembrance events this week, it was ultimately not possible.
“Following doctors’ guidance to ensure a full recovery from a seasonal chest infection, and to protect others from any potential risk, Her Majesty will not attend this weekend’s Remembrance events,” another statement said.
“While this is a source of great disappointment to the Queen, she will mark the occasion privately at home and hopes to return to public duties early next week.”
Two weeks ago the royal couple embarked on a six-day tour of Australia, the first major escapade for the King since his cancer diagnosis.
