Boots to sell £120 coronavirus test that gives result in 12 minutes

The high street chain is to start offering same-day coronavirus tests

Boots is set to start selling high speed COIVD tests for £120. The coronavirus tests will give a result in just 12 minutes, and is undertaken via a nasal swab. They then give results via a small, portable machine. The in-store test will be available to anyone who does not show symptoms of the disease. The tests will be available at 50 stores across the country, and have been developed by LumiraDx. Boots say the tests will help alleviate pressure on the NHS.

"Boots has supported the Government’s Covid-19 testing programme from the very start and offering this new in-store service is the next step in our efforts to fight against the pandemic," said Seb James, managing director of Boots UK and ROI.

"We hope that by offering this testing option in local community stores, Boots can help ease pressure on the NHS and the Government by providing additional access to testing and crucial reassurances for people across the UK."

Tests can be booked by anyone without symptoms in-store, or on Boots' website. The chain has also started a 48-hour testing service. That service is currently available in ten stores across the UK, including locations in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The chain plans to expand the service to over 50 stores in the country. The 48-hour testing service is aimed at those taking flights to countries where a negative test result is required on arrival, and also just those who want peace of mind before meeting vulnerable relatives or friends.
