Police are still working to identify the body

Police on Saturday confirmed they have found a body while searching for the sister-in-law of The Office star Mackenzie Crook.

Laurel Aldridge, 62, was last seen in the Walberton area, near Arundel, in West Sussex on February 14. She was due to attend a chemotherapy session that day but never made it.

Police found the body of a woman in the Tortington Lane area of Arundel on Saturday.

A spokesperson said: “At this stage, the family of missing Laurel Aldridge have been informed and we are seeking to confirm the identity of the woman.”

Crook, best known for playing Gareth Keenan alongside Ricky Gervais in The Office, earlier made a public plea for help, describing the disappearance as “incredibly difficult”.

“She is in quite a vulnerable position at the moment. She’s going through chemotherapy for cancer and she missed a session on Tuesday, she’s very vulnerable and we’re imagining she’s having some sort of crisis,” he said, earlier.

“That’s why we’re so desperate to find her.”

The Pirates of the Caribbean star said her disappearance was “very out of character”.

Speaking to ITV, the 51-year-old said: “She left her house early Tuesday morning and she’s not been seen since.

“That’s in the Walberton area where a lot of people are looking in the local woodlands along the roads and stuff like that. “I’d really like to appeal to people to go out into their back gardens and have a look in places where she might have taken rest.”

Laurel’s son-in-law, Charlie Wheeler, also issued an appeal after she was last seen leaving her home at around 7.20am.

He said: “We saw her on the Ring doorbell and all she had was warm clothes on her, but she didn’t have any keys, she didn’t have any cards, she didn’t take the car, she didn’t take her dogs and she’s just vanished.

“She’s currently undergoing chemo treatment and we’re worried she might be having some sort of mental health episode.”
