Greenwood’s family are said to be ‘looking forward’ to the baby’s summer arrival
Mason Greenwood is due to become a dad for the first time, according to reports.
The suspended Man United player — who had attempted rape and assault charges against him withdrawn earlier this month — recently learned his partner is pregnant, according to The Sun.
The 21-year-old’s family are aware and the couple are “looking forward” to the summer arrival, the publisher added.
Greenwood was arrested in January last year after a woman made claims against him on social media. Three weeks ago, on 2 February, he was cleared of any wrongdoing.
However, the footballer remains suspended by Man United but gets his £75,000-a-week salary. He is contracted with the Red Devils until 2025. The striker wants to return to the first-team squad as soon as possible, but the club is split over his future.
United are said to be carrying out an investigation before confirming how they plan to proceed with the matter.
The Sun reported on Saturday that some female players would be deeply concerned if senior club officials allowed Greenwood to return.
Natalie Burrell, founder of United Women’s Supporters’ Club, has said she never wants to see Greenwood in a red shirt again and told The Sun: “United need to make a statement and letting him back would be the worst thing they could do.
“I don’t want to see him training, in a kit, or coming out at Old Trafford again. And I’m confident they won’t (let him).”
Greenwood, a former England international, released a statement after having all charges dropped but has not commented on his return to football since, though reports have suggested he may go abroad.
His statement read: “I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support. There will be no further comment at this time.”
