The incident occurred in Charlottenburg

A vehicle has driven into a crowd in western Berlin, killing one person and injuring at least 30 people, according to emergency services.

The incident occurred in Charlottenburg on Wednesday morning.

One person died in the city centre incident involving a small Renault car, Germany’s Bild newspaper reported.

A man, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, has been detained, Berlin police said.

Doctor Who actor, John Barrowman, was at the scene, and in a series of tweets described how the “really pretty bad” incident unfoled.

Reports suggest between 10 and 30 people were injured.

The incident took place on Rankestrasse near the main shopping district’s Breitscheidplatz, the scene of the 2016 Christmas market attack in which 11 people were killed.

Some 60 firefighters are on the scene on the corner of Rankestrasse and Tauentzienstrasse, Metro reported.

Pictures from the scene show a silver car sticking out of a department store building front.

Morgen Post reporters said that a person was seen lying on the street covered in a blue sheet, The Sun reported.

It is unclear if the incident was intentional or an accident.
