Johnny Depp books out Indian restaurant

He reportedly racked up a £50,000 bill

Johnny Depp booked out one of the UK’s biggest Indian restaurants so that him and his party could enjoy a banquet.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star has been enjoying himself in the UK in recent weeks, performing at gigs across the country with Jeff Beck, having his picture taken with an orphaned badger, and enjoying a drink at a Newcastle pub.

And now he’s decided to treat himself to a curry at Varanasi in Birmingham, booking out the entire venue for him and his entourage, Sky News reports.

After his security checked the restaurant out to see whether it was safe and his privacy could be respected, Depp decided to book the 300-cover restaurant for Sunday evening.

According to the operations director at the curry house, Mo Hussain, Depp arrived with Beck and around two dozen members of their two crew and ate a three-course dinner of chicken tikka shashlik, vegetable samosas and a king prawn starter.

He had his picture taken with staff, and apparently left a “large tip” and a bill that came to around £50,000.

In a social media post, the restaurant wrote: “The most talked about person on the planet right now joined us for dinner last night ! We had the greatest of pleasure to be in the presence of Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck!

“What an amazing and humble experience. Only at Varanasi Restaurant!”

Hussain told the Metro: “We put on a customised menu for them with a selection of food, it was a pick-and-choose menu with poppadoms and chutneys and a variety of starters including shish kebabs, chicken tikka, vegetable samosas and king prawns.

“The main courses were chicken tikka masala, lamb karahi, paneer tikka masala, king prawn bhuna and a selection of rice and bread.”

He added that Depp even left with a takeaway bag, and that he said it was the “best curry he had ever had.”

Last week, a jury ruled in Depp’s favour in his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. They found Heard guilty of defaming Depp, and ordered her to pay her former husband $10m in compensatory damages.

Heard won one of her three claims of her countersuit, with the jury ruling that Depp’s attorney Adam Waldman defamed her.

She was awarded $2m in compensatory damages and nothing in punitive damages.
