Not the best way to treat your players
Barcelona have issued an apology to Ilkay Gundogan and his wife following their lack of support when he first joined the club.
Gundogan left Treble winners Manchester City to join Barça in the summer on a free transfer but has been forced to complain to the club after they made him and his wife, Sara Arfaoui, feel “abandoned”.
According to SPORT, the former Borussia Dortmund man was expecting more support from the Catalan club when it came to housing, transport, and care for his family.
The German also experienced a difficult start when it came to matters on the pitch.
Due to Barcelona’s ongoing financial woes the club were unable to register new players, with Gundogan being one of those who fell victim to the problem.
He was eventually registered – but only on the eve of their LaLiga opener against Getafe.
SPORT have added that Gundogan has more concerns with the culture around the club as players reportedly have to take on other jobs in order to fund their travel to training.
Last week the 33-year-old called out his teammates for their lack of emotion in the wake of their crushing El Classico defeat.
