Barcelona are in desperate need of money

Barcelona have been offered an opportunity to receive a huge financial boost by a Qatari side who want to use the club’s name.

The LaLiga champions have been in financial disarray and forced the club to make huge cuts, which included the decision not to renew the contract of Lionel Messi.

Registering players has been a consistent theme for La Blaugrana, with latest signing Ilkay Gundogan reportedly told in his contract that he will be allowed to leave for free in the summer if he can’t be registered.

Other big names such as Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba have also left the club in order to balance the books but the offer from Qatar may be able to help their needs even further.

Spanish outlet Tot Costa have claimed that club president Joan Laporta was spotted in Qatar and was offered €100m for the naming rights. Last season Laporta activated a number of “financial levers” so that the club were able to make signings last season

The team itself is unnamed but if approved, it may put more eyes on the country and it’s footballing pedigree once again.

Since hosting the World Cup, eyes have instead been fixated on their neighbours Saudi Arabia after a number of high-profile players have made the move to the Kingdom.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kanté, Ruben Neves and Edouard Mendy are some of the names to move over while more could well follow before the end of the transfer window.
