Anonymous are being investigated for hacking Donald Trump

Jordan Gold

Shortly after declaring ‘total war’ on US presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, online hacktivism group Anonymous claimed to have leaked his phone and social security numbers.

Now, following reports that the leaked information was indeed accurate, the US secret services have announced their plans to investigate the group over their recent #OpTrump and #OpWhiteRose operations.

In a statement to TIME magazine, a secret service spokesperson said:

“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the Internet postings of Candidate Donald Trump’s personal information. We are working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in this matter.”

Anonymous has since deleted the pastebin links and data dumps containing Trumps contact details. That, or Trump has paid to have them removed

Trump’s campaign issued a statement following the hack, promising to hold those involved accountable for their actions, a statement repeatedly reported by ABC News:

“The government and law enforcement authorities are seeking the arrest of the people responsible for attempting to illegally hack Mr. Trump’s accounts and telephone information.”
